PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Behind a two-run home run from
Andrew Heppner, Pace baseball snuck past Mercy University, 2-1, at Peter X. Finnerty Field on Tuesday afternoon. The win solidifies Pace as the winner of the season series with the Blue and Gold swiping all three games against the Mavericks.
Back-to-back wins for the Setters improve their record to 7-8 overall as they remain 1-2 within the Northeast-10 Conference.
Here's What Happened
- Following a scoreless opening inning from both sides, Pace lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run off the bat of Heppner.
- Mercy managed to post one run in the next half inning bringing a 2-1 score into the fourth inning.
- Moving ahead to the sixth, the Setters threaten to strike again at the dish with a base-loaded and no-outs opportunity. However, two straight strikeouts and an impressive long drive catch at third base kept the score at 2-1 heading into the seventh.
- The rest of the way, both pitching staffs took control and in the ninth inning Anthony Apollaro continued his outstanding 2025 season by shutting down the Mavericks. The Flower Mound, TX. native fanned the final batter of the day to earn his first save of the year while Pace wrapped up their 2-1 win.

- Matthew Franco (2-for-3) and Heppner (1-for-3) led the squad as they both registered a run in the contest led by Heppner's long ball in the second inning.
- Justin Dressler earned his first career win on the bump tossing five innings with one earned run and three strikeouts. Out of the bullpen the duo of Brendan McCann (3.0 IP, 0 ER), and Apollaro (1.0 IP, 1 K, 1 SV) held the Mavericks in check to help secure the victory.
