CARSON, CA. – On Monday afternoon, Pace softball competed in their second doubleheader on the West Coast, taking on the Toro's of California State of Dominguez Hills. In the twin-bill match-up, the Setters earned the win in game one, 1-0, and dropped game two, 6-1.
With two straight doubleheader splits to begin their Southern California trip, softball improves to 6-4 with four games remaining on their road expedition.
Game One (8 innings)
- Gisselle Garcia displayed her talents in game one of the doubleheader tossing eight scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. As pitching dominated the contest, both sides were held scoreless through seven innings of play leading to extra innings in Carson, CA.
- Two singles in the top of the eighth put the Setters in an excellent situation to tally the first runs of the game. With runners on first and third, a wild pitch gave Raelle Gorman a chance to swipe a bag at home. The junior managed to cross the plate giving the Setters a one-run advantage, 1-0, moving into the bottom half of the inning.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Garcia returned to the circle where she put the finishing touches on the ball game with Pace earning the 1-0 win.
Game Two
- The second game of the twin-bill presented a much different story for the Setters as they fell behind by five runs late in the contest.
- Following a quiet beginning, the score evened up in the fifth, 1-1, behind a Faith Scally single to right field. However, four runs from the Toro's in the sixth put the game out of reach for the road squad as the Blue and Gold fell, 6-1.
