Garcia’s No-Hitter Helps Setters Split Doubleheader with No. 25 CUI

IRVINE, CA. – Opening up their trip to Southern California, Pace softball faced their second ranked opponent of the 2025 season with No. 25 Concordia University of Irvine (CUI). In the road twin-bill, Giselle Garcia posted a no-hitter in game one to help the Setters earn a 1-0 victory. Following her impressive performance on the mound, the Blue and Gold fell in game two, losing a close battle, 4-3.

Pace takes 5-3 overall record through eight games into their second meeting on the West Coast

Game One
  • A low-scoring affair ensued in game one of the doubleheader as both pitchers presented a challenge for hitters. Garcia dominated in the early innings, posting seven strikeouts in the first three innings.
  • After three scoreless innings, Pace's offense opened up in the fourth behind a Katerine Luna RBI single. The three hit innings gave the Setters a 1-0 lead as Garcia returned to the mound with her no-hitter still intact.
  • The senior went on to strike out five batters in the final three innings, completing her outstanding performance on the mound. On the day, the Lemon Grove, CA. native commanded the circle, producing 15 strikeouts in seven innings with no hits allowed.
  • Garcia's stellar outing led Pace to a 1-0 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.
Game Two
  • In game two, Pace's offense was jump-started by Luna once again as she struck a single in the second inning to put the Setters ahead, 1-0.
  • With a 1-0 advantage, CUI responded by scoring the next four runs before the fourth innings end the home squad had a 4-1 lead.
  • Behind by three runs, the Blue and Gold only managed to score two runs the rest of the way, leading to a 4-3 loss.
Box Score Insights
  • Garcia highlighted the afternoon with her 15-strikeout no-hitter. After tallying five total no-hitters in the 2024 season, the senior earned her first of 2025 in just four starts.
  • Willa Poplawski continued to rip the cover off the ball in the doubleheader, posting four hits and two RBIs.
  • Luna had her way in the batter's box, with two hits and two RBIs, while Riley Jenkins supplied four hits in the afternoon.
