PLEASANTVILLE, NY - #2 Pace Women's Lacrosse kicked off their doubleheader weekend with a beautiful sunny day and a non-conference contest with #18 Seton Hill University at Northwell Stadium.
In the event, senior
Nikki Mottes, reset a Women's Lacrosse record that was set by Pace Hall of Famer,
Casey Gelderman in 2018, when she rallied 11 points throughout the day on four goals and seven assists.
Here's What Happened:
- The Setters allowed their opponents to cage the first goal of the day that was eventually extended to three while the first Blue and Gold goal has yet to be recorded. Mackenzie Carita found the back of the net to get the offensive charge going at the nine-minute mark and it soon led to Annie Sheehan tallying a point of her own to trail 3-2.
- Carita equalized the score at three and Marissa Doty recorded the go-ahead goal, 4-3. The first quarter ended in favor of the Setters, 5-4, and that would remain for the entire contest despite the fight of the Griffins.
- The Setters recorded four goals throughout the second led by Mottes' back-to-back goals, Carita's third of the day, and Lisa Heffernan. The hosts entered halftime in front, 9-7.
- Pace pulled away from their opponents in the third with four goals and only allowed one. Both Carita and Maddie Schubert recorded two goals apiece in the quarter, two of them assisted by Mottes, 13-8.
- Seton Hill clawed their way back into the game during the fourth quarter as they caged six and was able to trail the hosts by 1, 13-12, with nine minutes remaining. Each goal that the Setters scored, starting at their 14th point, the Griffins had the answer, 14-13.
- The duo of Heffernan and Mottes worked to put two unanswered goals on the board for the Blue and Gold and during this time, Mottes shattered the 2018 record for most points in a game while capping off the day with the final point for the 17-14 victory.
