Baseball Suffers Setback in Doubleheader against D’Youville

CARY, N.C. – Continuing their games in Cary, N.C., Pace baseball dropped back-to-back contests against D'Youville University, falling 7-0 and then 1-0. Two straight losses lead to a 3-2 overall record in the early portion of the season for the Blue and Gold.

Here's what happened
  • In game one of the twin-bill, the Setters managed only two hits as the Saints had their way on the mound.
  • A complete game shutout from D'Youville's starting pitcher highlighted game one, with Pace failing to bring a run across the plate. The Saints tallied seven runs in the opening game to fend off the Setters, 7-0.
  • Pace's bats remained quiet in game two, and three double plays from D'Youville tarnished multiple scoring opportunities.
  • One run on the board from the Saints decided the game as the pitching efforts from both sides commanded the contest, leading to a 1-0 loss.
Box Score Insights
  • Only six hits were recorded on the day for the Setters as their offense struggled to find momentum at the plate.
  • Senior outfielder Josh Miller registered his 100th career hit with Pace lining a single to left field in the top half of the third of game one.
  • On the bump in the first match-up, Aidan Kempf notched five innings with six strikeouts, surrendering five hits and two earned runs.
  • In game two, Ryan Degnan (4.0 IP, 1 ER) and Brendan McCann (3.0 IP, 2 K's) both produced strong outings, but it was not enough for the Setters.
