PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On an afternoon filled with emotion and high stakes, Pace University Women's Soccer capped off its Senior Day with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Bentley University at Northwell Stadium. Entering the match at 8-7-1 overall and fighting to stay in postseason contention in the Northeast 10 Conference, Pace controlled the tempo for much of the afternoon and outshot the Falcons by a wide margin but ultimately settled for a point in its final regular-season home match.
The Setters came out composed and aggressive from the opening whistle, dictating possession in midfield and generating the first sustained chances of the match. Their breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when
Meredith Klosek timed her run perfectly and buried a pass from
Madison Pieloch to give Pace a 1-0 lead.
Behind strong play from the back line and midfield, the Setters limited Bentley to just two first-half shots and carried their lead into halftime after outshooting the Falcons 7-2.
Pace continued to press forward in the second half, piling on 16 more shots and forcing Bentley's goalkeeper into six saves.
Allison Carr and
Ava Viebrock were active in the attack, while Pieloch and Klosek generated chances out of the midfield. Despite their dominance, the Falcons capitalized on one of their few opportunities, tying the match in the 75th minute on a strike from Olivia Matthews.
The Setters pushed hard for a late winner, with Carr, Klosek, Viebrock, and
Juliana Procopio all recording shots in the closing minutes, but Bentley held firm to preserve the draw.
Goalkeeper
Anna Fiore played all 90 minutes and made two saves, while the defensive unit featuring
Anna English,
Milani Thompson,
Hannah Rautenstrauch, and
Alexis Lee limited Bentley to five total shots and one corner kick.
The Blue and Gold finished the afternoon with a commanding 23-5 shot advantage and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Women's soccer will travel to Garden City to face Adelphi University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in its regular-season finale.
