NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A late strike from
Andrea Flores wasn't enough to complete the comeback as Pace Women's Soccer dropped a hard-fought 2–1 decision at Southern Connecticut State University.
The Setters dictated much of the opening half, maintaining possession and generating several early chances.
Allison Carr and
Juliana Procopio each tested the Owls' keeper, but a 27th-minute goal from the Owls put Pace behind 1–0 heading into the half despite an 11–6 shot advantage.
Southern Connecticut doubled its lead on a penalty kick early in the second half, but Pace continued to press forward. Flores broke through in the 83rd minute, finishing from close range to bring the Setters within one. The Blue and Gold continued to apply pressure through the final whistle, earning two late corners, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Pace ended the match with a 17–14 edge in shots and a 7–3 margin in corner kicks. Carr and Procopio each registered four shots, while
Anna Fiore made four saves in goal.
The Setters return home to host American International College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
