WORCESTER, MA. – On Saturday afternoon, Pace University Women's Soccer was unable to overcome an early deficit, dropping a 2-0 decision to Assumption University in Northeast 10 (NE10) Conference action at Normand Marois Field. The result moves the Setters to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in NE10 play as they near the midpoint of their conference slate.
The afternoon began with a quick burst of offense from both sides, but it was Assumption who found the back of the net first, scoring less than five minutes into the match to seize the early lead. Pace responded with poise, settling into possession and creating multiple attacking sequences through the wings. The Setters peppered the Greyhound goalkeeper with eight first-half shots, four of which landed on target.
Bailey Olson and
Meredith Klosek were particularly active up front, combining for several quality chances, while defenders
Hannah Rautenstrauch and
Milani Thompson pushed forward to generate additional pressure. Goalkeeper
Anna Fiore made three key saves before halftime to keep the margin within one.
After regrouping at the break, Pace continued to dictate much of the second-half tempo, pressing high and earning four corner kicks on the day. Despite maintaining steady pressure, the Setters saw Assumption convert again in the 57th minute to make it 2-0. The Blue and Gold continued to battle, as Rautenstrauch, Thompson, and
Allison Carr each fired shots in search of a response, but the hosts' defense held firm.
Pace ended the match with a 16–15 edge in total shots and a 4–1 advantage in corners. Fiore finished with five total saves in 90 minutes of action, while Klosek led the team with three shots on goal.
The Blue and Gold return to Northwell Stadium on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for a match-up against Dominican University of New York.
