Setters Fall on the Road in Thriller to Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, VT. – For the first time in five games, Pace women's basketball was defeated falling to Saint Michael's College, 50-47, Saturday afternoon. Coming down to the final seconds the Setters had a chance to send the game into overtime but fell just short of the comeback on the road.

With the in-conference loss, the Blue and Gold move to 11-9 overall, and 7-5 in the Northeast-10.

Here's What Happened
  • The opening half favored the home team with Saint Michael's taking a 30-21 advantage into the locker room. Arianna Stockinger led the Setters with seven first-half points.
  • Pace and Saint Michael's traded buckets in the first minute of the third quarter and then the Setters utilized a 9-0 run cutting into their opponent's lead, 36-32. At the end of the third, the Blue and Gold trailed by six points, 42-36.
  • Jump starting the final quarter Pace made quick work on the floor erasing their deficit in two minutes to even the contest at 42. A low-scoring defensive battle in the fourth led to minimal opportunities for each side. The Purple Knights eventually jumped back on top, 47-42, with under three minutes left in the contest.
  • In the closing minute down three points, 47-44, Pace had a chance to strike against the Purple Knights. Out of an in-bounds, the Setters found an opening on the left wing for Morgan Ryan and the junior delivered finding the bottom of the net to tie the game at 47 apiece.
  • The heroic three-point make left Saint Michael's with ten seconds on the clock and an opportunity to swipe the lead back. As the clock wound down in the final seconds a setback three-point shot connected for the Purple Knights putting the home squad ahead, 50-47.
  • One final chance on the other end fell short and the Setters dropped the match-up, 50-47, ending their five-game winning streak.
Box Score Insights
  • The duo of Tower Lorde and Stockinger combined for 28 points with Lorde netting 15 and Stockinger posting 13. The pair also grabbed 22 total rebounds as Lorde brought down 13 and Stockinger tallied nine.
  • Katumina Mansaray had an all-around effort producing seven points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
  • Points off turnovers made the difference for the Purple Knights as they registered 19 compared to Pace's five.
