SPRINGFIELD, MA – Women's Basketball continues to extend their win streak to five games on Wednesday evening after the Setters defeated the hosts, American International, 58-51, in Massachusetts.
The last five games allowed the Blue and Gold to improve to 11-8 overall and 7-4 in the Northeast-10 (NE10).
Here's What Happened:
- After one quarter of play, the Setters sat tied with the Yellowjackets 10-10 while being led by Shanice Sinclair, Tower Lorde, and Morgan Ryan.
- The defensive pressure from Pace held the hosts to six points in the second half and the Blue and Gold went on to tally 14, 24-16, at the halfway point.
- With the Yellowjackets, outscoring the Setters in the third, the opening minutes of the final frame featured a 5-point lead for Pace, 37-32.
- The fourth quarter displayed the best scoring outing for both teams in the night. Sinclair got the quarter started with a bucket followed by Ryan on a three, 42-34. Ciara Collins and Katumina Mansaray aided in the largest advantage of the night of 16after Collins nailed a dagger trey and Mansaray inside the paint bucket, 52-36. With that safety net of a lead added, the Yellowjackets slimmed down the lead to six with 40-seconds remaining in the night, but they were too late, and the Setters secured their fifth consecutive victory, 58-51.
Box Score Insights:
- Lorde filled the stat sheet while leading all scorers and tied for first on the boards with 19-points and six rebounds while recording one block and one steal. The graduate student also shot 80% (8-10) from the field.
- Mansaray and Ryan had nine points apiece with Ryan shooting 50% (2-4) from behind the arc.
- Collins finished with eight points with four rebounds and Arianna Stockinger sat with Lorde grabbing six rebounds.
