No. 7 Setters Fall in Tightly Contested Matchup Against Assumption

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Saturday afternoon, No. 7 Pace men's basketball faced Assumption University in a match-up of two of the best teams in the Northeast-10 (NE10). In the close contest at home, the Setters fell to the Greyhounds 82-75 in a game that went down to the wire.

Following the in-conference loss, Pace moves to 15-3 overall, and 7-3 within the NE10.

Here's What Happened
  • After a back-and-forth first half, the Blue and Gold trailed by four points, 38-34, to the Greyhounds. Jamaal Waters led the way in the opening half posting 11 points for the Setters.
  • To open the second half, both sides traded buckets until the game evened up at 42 points. With 13 minutes remaining, Jabari Nurse cut through the lane and slammed in a dunk to give the Setters a 50-43 advantage.
  • The Greyhounds did not back down answering back with a three-point make on the other end. Later in the half, the Setters missed two straight opportunities from long-range opening the door for the visitors.
  • With a 10-3 run the Greyhounds swiped the lead from the Setters, 61-60, with only six minutes remaining on the clock. In the final minutes, both sides traded field goals and with 2:30 left in the contest Pace was down one point, 70-69.
  • In the tight-knit end of the game, Assumption knocked down multiple free throws taking a 76-69 lead. With their backs against the wall, the Setters needed a remarkable comeback with under a minute remaining.
  • Despite a steal and score from Trey Boyd III to cut into Assumption's lead, 76-75, the Setters fell in the final seconds. The Greyhounds wrapped up the contest at the charity stripe capturing an 82-75 victory over the Blue and Gold.
Box Score Insights
  • Nurse surpassed a career-high in the contest, supplying 19 points along with six rebounds. The senior also notched a career-best nine makes from the free-throw line.
  • Waters produced an impressive double-double for Pace scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Out of his 11 rebounds, nine came on the offensive glass marking a career-high for the senior forward.
  • Tray Alexander and Boyd III each poured in 14 points on the night. Behind the duo, Christian Adams tallied a season-best ten points.
