PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Football opened up their 2024 campaign on their home turf of Northwell Stadium and welcomed East Stroudsburg University (ESU) Thursday evening.
The Setters were first to strike when they put themselves on the board in less than a minute into regulation. After a Warriors regroup, the visiting squad toppled the hosts for a 6-41 Pace defeat.
Here's What Happened:
- To start the first quarter, ESU received the ball from a Dylan Squillacioti 65-yard kick off.
- The Warriors recorded a 1 yard gain in their first play, but found themselves in a hole when Ibrahim Diallo intercepted a pass for a Setter touchdown, the first of the season and the game.
- With the Setters holding momentum, the following Warriors drive led them to a field goal and started to chip away at the host lead, 3-6. By the end of the first quarter, ESU was out in front, 6-10.
- Pace was able to hold their opponents to just a field goal as they entered the half trailing 6-13. Despite the defensive efforts of the blue-and-gold, ESU piled on 21 points for their largest quarter of the night to lead the Setters, 6-34.
- Less than a minute remaining in opening day, Ah-Shaun Davis found Tyreek Smith for a 56 yard pass in hopes for just one more touchdown, however, time was not on their side and the squad dropped 6-41.
