PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In a tight-knit contest between Pace field hockey and Saint Anselm College, the Setters came up short 2-3 as the Hawks snuck past with a goal in the final minute. Following Saturday's loss, the Blue and Gold move to 4-4 overall, and 1-2 in the Northeast-10 conference.
Here's What Happened
- The Setters struck first with a Kyleigh Kearney goal eight minutes into the opening quarter. After the first 15 minutes of play, the Setters held a 1-0 advantage over the visiting Hawks.
- Saint Anselm answered in the second quarter tallying two goals to swipe the lead from Pace. Moving into halftime, the Setters trailed by one, 1-2, and were in need of a rally.
- Neither side found the back of the net in the third as Pace's one-goal deficit was pushed into the final quarter.
- Just under four minutes into the fourth quarter, the Setters had a chance to tie the game with a penalty corner opportunity. After a pile-up between both teams in the crease, sophomore Ella Tamweber managed to sneak in a goal to bring the score to 2-2.
- With a minute remaining in the game, it seemed the contest would be decided in overtime, however, the Hawks moved up the field and were in position to take the lead. With thirty seconds left, a foul forced a penalty corner in favor of the Hawks.
- Off the corner, Saint Anselm capitalized to take a 3-2 advantage with 20 seconds left. A final push from the Setters was not enough and Pace fell 2-3 in the final moments of the in-conference match-up.
