PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Pace Women's Soccer (1-2-2 / 0-0-1 NE10) welcomed Saint Anselm College to Northwell Stadium Saturday evening for their first Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) match up of the season.
The final ten minutes of regulation were crucial for the Setters as they trailed the Hawks for majority of the night.
Alexis Lee and
Shannon Selvaggio recorded incredible goals to force the 2-2 draw with the Hawks for their conference opener.
Here's What Happened:
- In a slow moving first half, the Hawks asserted their offensive push when they netted the ball for the first goal of the night at the 27-minute mark. By the end of the first, the two squads combined for five shots; Pace trailed 3-2 in that category.
- Opening the second half, Saint Anselm piled onto their lead with another goal to force the Setters in a two goal deficit.
- Under 10-minutes remaining in the contest and Lee was set up for a free kick opportunity. Off the foot, the junior soared the ball high with a slight curve and found the top right corner of the net for the Setters first goal, 2-1.
- Lee's goal shifted the game's momentum into the hands of her team. Selvaggio dribbled the ball on the right side of the field and maneuvered around her opponent for a shot into net's left corner for the 2-2 equalizer.
Box Score Insights:
- Lee and Selvaggio were the goal scorers in the night. Selvaggio led the duo with two shots while Lee just had one. Ava Viebrock paced the offensive with three shots, two of them on goal.
- Annabella Cole started the second-half for the Setters and recorded six saves in the process.
- Tonight's draw is the first ever tie with the Hawks.
