Dietz’s Valiant Effort Leads Setters Past IUP in OT Thriller

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. –  With an exceptional five-point afternoon from Krista Dietz, Pace field hockey emerged victorious, 3-2, in a battle against Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). In the first-ever field hockey match-up between Pace and IUP, the Blue and Gold needed extra time to take down the Crimson Hawks. A heroic shot from Krista Dietz was the decider eight minutes into overtime as the Setters move to 3-3 overall on the year.

Here's What Happened
  •  Dietz jump-started her impressive performance with a goal seven minutes into the contest to put the Setters ahead 1-0. Two minutes later, IUP tied the game at one capitalizing off a penalty stroke.
  • After a quiet second quarter from both sides, the Crimson Hawks took the lead with a goal at the 35-minute mark of the third.
  • Halfway through the third quarter, IUP had an opportunity to extend their lead with a penalty stroke. However, goalkeeper Celeste Pagliaroli had other plans in mind, making a diving save to keep the Crimson Hawks in check to hold the score at 1-2.
  • With less than five minutes remaining in the game, the Setters needed a goal, and it was Jenna McCrudden who delivered. The graduate student snuck a goal past IUP to tie the game, 2-2. When the clock struck zero neither side led and overtime would decide the tight-knit affair.
  • Both teams battled back and forth in extra time with several penalty corners. Eight minutes into overtime, Dietz found the back of the net off an assist from McCrudden to cement Pace's win, 3-2. With the outstanding comeback victory over IUP, the Setters improve to 3-3 on the season.
Box Score Insights
  • The Setters were led by Dietz's five-point performance as the senior tallied two goals and an assist. The Mahopac, N.Y. native continues to showcase her incredible talent on the field as Saturday's efforts helped her leap into the top 11 all-time points leaders in the Northeast-10 with 154 points.
  • Pagliaroli produced her season-high in saves with 13. The second-year goalkeeper minimized IUP's opportunities in the crease despite the visitors having nearly twice the number of shots on goal.
  • McCrudden posted her fourth goal of the season while Katelyn Fairhurst earned her second assist of the year.
  • The Blue and Gold made the most of their chances at the net with ten of their 14 shots finding their target.
