Setters Drop Matchup Against Mercy at Home

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace volleyball fell 1-3 to the visiting Mercy University Mavericks on Tuesday night. The Setters battled a difficult Mercy squad taking them to the fourth set but dropped the match falling to 2-3 overall on the season.

Here's What Happened
  • After being down six points in the opening set, Pace rallied back to bring the score to within two points, 20-22. In the back-and-forth set, Mercy eventually closed out with three of the last four points to put the Setters behind 0-1.
  • The second set remained close between both sides as a tie at 15 occurred halfway through. The Mavericks managed to string together eight straight points to bring their lead to 23-15. The impressive stretch was enough to keep the Setters away as Mercy claimed set two 25-19.
  • In the third set, two kills from Daniella Abbastante jump-started a run from the Blue and Gold. The Setters held a six-point advantage at the midway mark, 13-7. Mercy crawled back into the set with multiple rallies to cut Pace's lead down to one, 21-20. A three-point run from the Mavericks brought the score to 23-24 with the Setters behind. However, Pace answered with a three-point run of their own to shut down Mercy's comeback, closing the set, 26-24.
  • A 9-2 opening run from the Mavericks in set four created a large deficit for the Setters to overcome. Although Pace trimmed into Mercy's lead in the late portion of the set, the Mavericks came away with a 25-18 win to wrap up the night.
  • With the 1-3 defeat, the Setters move to 2-3 overall through five matches.
