GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The 2024 men's lacrosse season came to end Sunday as the No. 8 Pace University men's lacrosse team was defeated by the No. 4 Adelphi University Panthers in the NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinals, 14-9.
Pace finishes the 2024 campaign with a final record of 13-4, tying a program record.
The Setters set the tone early, firing off the first two goals thanks to
Ryan Kemp and
Trevor Lamoureux; the latter beat the Panther's goalie, Dylan Renner, high to take a 2-0 lead early. The Panthers responded with the final three goals including one with one second remaining to take a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
The lead never swung back to the Blue and Gold, let alone returned to a tie as every Pace goal was always answered by the Panthers, with Adelphi taking a 6-4 lead into halftime.
Kemp scored the first goal out of the half but four unanswered goals by Adelphi immediately after got the lead up to 10-5. While Pace would make a valiant comeback attempt, getting the first two goals of the fourth quarter, Adelphi got those two back before Pace could get the lead back down to one.
Kemp capped off his collegiate career with one final hat trick and one assist.
Brian Brennan forced three turnovers while
Nick Honan caused two.
