The Setters have cruised to the finals, dispatching both their opponents thus far with ease. In the quarterfinals, the Setters easily dispatched Franklin Pierce 19-6. In the semifinals, the Setters defense stole the show, holding No. 18 Bentley to a mere three goals in the semifinals as the Setters advanced 15-3.
Angelina Porcello and
Nikki Mottes were the motors in the two wins to reach this point. Porcello has chipped in seven goals while handing out six assists and causing three turnovers. Mottes, who turned in a breakout regular season, continued that play in the postseason, scoring eight goals in the games.
Margaret Flocco fired off five goals of her own as well.
As for the Panthers, their road to Northwell has been a little different. The second seeded, and fourth ranked nationally, Panthers cruised through their quarterfinal round, winning 21-10 over Southern New Hampshire University, but were tested in the semifinals. No. 21 New Haven put a scare into the Panthers as Adelphi hung on to advance, 9-7.
Adelphi boards a trio of 40-goal scorers, with Kelly-Ann McGrath scoring 46, Kerrin Heuser recording 45 and Danielle Marino sporting 44.
These two teams met earlier this year at Adelphi. The game lived up to the hype as the two top-five teams clashed on Apr. 10 and Pace emerged on top, 12-11.
