Kemp Keeps the Good Times Rolling as No. 10 Pace Hold off Greyhounds

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Ryan Kemp continued his strong play Tuesday night, scoring five goals for the second straight game as the No. 10 Pace University men's lacrosse team held off Assumption University, 16-11, at Northwell Stadium.

Pace improves to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in Northeast 10 play. Pace returns to action with a trip to Colchester, VT. for a meeting with Saint Michael's College at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 13.

The Blue and Gold scored the first goals of the game, with Colin Reese and Trevor Lamoureux taking passes from Declan Landers to find the back of the net.

After those two goals, Kemp did it himself to score two more times to make the score 4-0 with 43 seconds left. Assumption got on the board with 16 seconds left and appeared to enter the second quarter with some momentum, but Landers took a Kemp pass and buried a shot to take a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter was a tight battle, with the Setters only outscoring the Greyhounds by one goal to take a 9-4 into halftime.

The visitors made one final push in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals including three straight goals from Patrik McGrarth to close the gap to 10-8 with just under three minutes left in the third quarter. Dominic Veratti fired a shot from distance to stop the bleeding and Pace would score three of the next five goals to keep the Greyhounds at bay for the rest of the game.

Jack Kern was stout in between the pipes for Pace, making 15 saves. Daniel Zabbia added two goals and one assist while causing two turnovers. Joining Zabbia with two caused turnovers this evening were Chris Caputo, Rowan Kelly, and Brian Brennan.
