Season-Best 18 Hits Help Setters Cruise Past American International in Series Opener

SPRINGFIELD, MA – With a season-high 18 hits, the Pace University baseball team coasted past American International College, 9-3, in the first game of a three-game set. The win marks the Setters 16th overall, as they move to 16-8, and 8-3 within the Northeast-10.

The Blue and Gold began their barrage of runs in the fourth inning after a slow start at the plate. Three runs crossed the plate in the inning as Dylan Koch produced two RBIs and Josh Miller added one. After four innings of play, Pace led 3-2.

After tacking on a run in the sixth and seventh innings, The Setters' offense exploded in the ninth. Five singles in the inning produced four runs for Pace to extend their lead by seven runs, 9-2. In the bottom of the ninth, Sean Costello earned a Pace freshman record fifth save to secure the 9-3 in-conference victory.

Vincent Civitella took the bump for the Blue and Gold pitching confidently into the seventh inning in a productive performance. Other than two runs allowed in the second, Civitella shut down the Yellow Jackets batters striking out seven in the contest.

The 18-hit day marks the ninth time in the 2024 season that Pace has surpassed double-digit base knocks. Three different Setters had three hits in the contest with Anthony Labita (3-for-4, 1 RBI), Hunter Goldstein (3-for-4 1 RBI), and Miller (3-for-4, 2 RBIs). Four other Setters tallied multiple hits in the offensive storm.

The Blue and Gold are back in action tomorrow to conclude the three-game series against American International with the first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for noon.
