Stellar Pitching Leads Pace to Series Sweep Over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Allowing only one run in Sunday's doubleheader, the Pace University baseball team completed their series sweep, 3-0, of American International College. The Blue and Gold won the first game, 1-0, and game two, 4-1. On the season, the Setters move to 18-8 overall, and 10-3 within the Northeast-10.

Game One

In the first game of the doubleheader, it was a duel between the two pitchers. Patrick Gleason took the mound for Pace and delivered one of his finest performances of the 2024 season. The fifth-year starter tossed a complete game shutout surrendering one hit while retiring ten batters on strikeouts.

For AIC, Tim Krol presented a difficult challenge for the Pace lineup. He struck out nine batters in his seven-inning outing allowing a solo home run for his only run.

Anthony Labita launched the game-winning home run in the fourth inning to score the only run of game one.

Behind Gleason's incredible day, one run is all the Setters needed in their 1-0 win. The Valhalla, N.Y. native threw 120 pitches in the contest allowing only five batters to reach base.

Game Two

In game two, American International broke through in the first scoring their first run of the day to take an early 1-0 lead. Despite the quick start, Pace's Dan Brown kept the Yellow Jackets lineup quiet through the seventh inning allowing one run in his start.

In the third, the Setters tied the game at one after Labita drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. The next three innings remained scoreless for both sides as the game moved into the seventh tied, 1-1.

The Blue and Gold took control of the match-up with a three-run seventh inning. George Provel forced the first run, then Josh Miller had an infield single to increase the Pace lead to 3-1. Dylan Koch finished off the rally with an RBI single through the right side.

With a 4-1 lead, Marco Siracusa came in a close the door on American International to complete the 3-0 series sweep on the road.

All nine batters for Pace recorded a hit in game two, with Mason Baronian highlighting the offense with his 3-for-5 performance.

Brown tallied 11 strikeouts, breaking his career-best record of ten which he set against Franklin Pierce back in March. The senior went seven innings allowing one run and one walk. Siracusa earned the save in the contest.
