No. 1 Pace Holds Off Late Charge to Secure Back-to-Back NE10 Regular Season Titles

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After holding off the No. 19 Assumption University Greyhounds, 13-11, the No. 1 Pace University women's lacrosse team became back-to-back Northeast 10 regular season champions on Tuesday evening.

With the win, the Setters earn the top overall seed in the upcoming NE10 Conference Championships, with all games Pace will play at Northwell Stadium, with the Setter's quest beginning on Saturday.

The offense picked up where they left off in the last game against Bentley University, firing off seven first-quarter goals, with Nikki Mottes and Angelina Porcello each supplying a pair to lead the way. Pace exited the first quarter with a comfortable 7-1 lead.

Assumption would be stubborn, and slowly chip away at the lead and it came to a head in the third quarter. Assumption started to build momentum with back-to-back goals out of the break to close the gap to 9-6. In need of a goal, Porcello delivered a highlight reel goal, perfectly executing a flurry of dodges and moves to score a crucial goal and get the back up to three, 10-6.

Assumption got two more goals in the quarter to give Pace a slim advantage heading into the final quarter, 10-8.

Freshman Annie Sheehan emerged as the hero for Pace in the final quarter, scoring the first two goals of the quarter and that added space was exactly what Pace needed to hold off one final push from Assumption.

Porcello finished with five goals and three caused turnovers. Sheehan deposited four goals while the dynamic defensive duo of Delilah Doyle and Alexandra Quinn each forced four turnovers.
