PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 1 ranked Pace University women's lacrosse faced little resistance in the Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinal Saturday afternoon at Northwell Stadium, dispatching Franklin Pierce University, 19-6.
The Setters advance to the semifinals, hosting Bentley University this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Northwell Stadium.
Much like when these two teams met during the regular season, Pace jumped out in front with an opening salvo of offense in the first quarter and never looked back. Powered by a first-quarter hat trick from
Angelina Porcello, Pace scored seven goals in the opening quarter compared to a mere one for Franklin Pierce.
The lead got up to double digits in the second quarter thanks to six unanswered goals, with Porcello and
Margaret Flocco each contributing two of the six. At the half, Pace held a 14-2 advantage, and it grew from there. As the third quarter drew to a close,
Gigi Genovese scored her first goal of the season as well as her first collegiate playoff goal.
In the opening moments of the fourth quarter,
Sarah Scheidel fired a shot off a pass from
Madison Ibach, a shot which found the back of the cage for the freshman's first career goal. While it was not her first goal of the season,
Audrey Colucci also earned her first playoff goal.
Porcello finished with five goals, three assists and three caused turnovers. Flocco tied her season-high with four goals while
Nikki Mottes and
Maddie Schubert each contributed a hat trick.
Alexandra Quinn caused three turnovers while adding an assist and five draw controls.
