Koch’s Two Homer Day Helps Setters Split with Saint Anselm

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Behind Dylan Koch's two-home run performance in game two the Pace University baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader with Saint Anselm. The Setters dropped game one 3-6, and rallied to win game two, 9-2. After their Sunday split, Pace improves to 23-12 overall, and 13-8 in the Northeast-10.

Game One

The Setters fell victim to a five-run inning from Saint Anselm which led to the loss in game one. Pace held a 3-1 lead until the seventh before the Hawks' bats rallied to swipe the lead from the home squad. In the eighth and ninth, Saint Anselm kept Pace's bats quiet to secure game one by a final score of 6-3.

Mason Baronian continued his hot streak, hitting his second home run of the season in a 1-for-3 effort with 2 RBIs. Brayden Sweppenhiser produced three hits, one stolen base, and one run scored. Koch posted an RBI after going 1-for-4.

Game Two (7 innings)

The Setters found their stride in the second game after Dylan Koch jump-started the Setter's impressive hitting performance in the second inning. The freshman launched his second home run of the year to give Pace the first run of the contest.

In the third, the Blue and Gold essentially put the game out of reach, scoring six runs in the inning. Hunter Goldstein was the first Setter to drive a run home in the rally after a double into the right-center gap.

Baronian brought home the second run of the inning with another double. Following up Baronian's hit, George Provel sliced a single to left field to extend Pace's lead to 5-0. To complete the rally, Koch smacked his second home run of the game which increased the Setters's lead to 7-0. The freshman became the first Setter to hit two home runs in one game since Mitchell McCabe last achieved the feat on April 25th, 2023.

Ryan Degnan cruised through Saint Anselm's lineup to earn his third win of the season. In the seven-inning affair, Degnan threw a complete game allowing two hits and two runs while striking out a season-high six batters. The Setters wrapped up the contest in the seventh, 9-2 after an impressive snag near the fence from Anthony Labita closed the game out.

Koch led all batters with his 2-home run and 3 RBI effort. Josh Miller (2-for-3, 1 run) and Goldstein (2-for-4, 1 run) both had productive games at the dish.

Up Next

The Setters return to the diamond Tuesday afternoon for an out-of-conference match-up against Molloy University. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:30 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
