ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Tuesday afternoon, the Pace University baseball team was defeated, 3-0, by No. 16 Molloy University. After a difficult battle on the road, the Setters move to 23-14 overall and remain 13-8 within the Northeast-10.
The Blue and Gold failed to bring a run across in the tough match-up against the number 16th ranked Molloy Lions. Despite producing nine base hits in the contest the Lions negated each chance Pace had to score.
In the final inning, the Setters had the first two runners reach base, but the Lions managed to retire the next three to end the game, 3-0. Although Pace put up a solid fight again, the Setters fell victim to a few untimely mistakes.
In the heart of Molloy's lineup, Anthony Manisero did the most damage on the day. The senior went 3-for-3 with two home runs and two runs batted in. Robert Luciano dominated on the mound for Molloy as he tossed a complete game shutout escaping multiple high-pressure situations.
Vincent Vartolone churned out a productive outing for the Blue and Gold as he pitched six innings, surrendering only one earned run. Dominic Rivara (2-for-3) and Matthew Franco (2-for-4) posted the most efficient performances at the dish for Pace.
Up next for Pace is a home doubleheader Saturday at noon against the College of Saint Rose as the baseball team celebrates its Senior Day.
