COLCHESTER, VT. Faced with their longest road trip of the season, the No. 1 Pace University women's lacrosse team was unfazed and took care of business with a 24-5 win over Saint Michael's College Saturday evening.
Pace continues their perfect season, improving to 12-0 and 6-0 in Northeast play. Pace will return home to Northwell Stadium for its next contest, hosting Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Apr. 17 at 7 p.m.
The Blue and Gold scored early and often, posting seven first-quarter goals while only conceding two. Annie Sheehan got the scoring started, finding the back of the net following an SMC green card. From there, the floodgates opened as Sydney Juvelier, Angelina Porcello, Maddie Schubert, and Margaret Flocco all added goals to round out the first quarter scoring.
The lead reached double digits in the second and the Setters ran away with the contest from there. Six of the first seven goals of the second quarter went in favor of Pace to take a 13-3 lead with 8:11 left in the first half. Porcello and Mottes netted two more goals in the final couple minutes to take a 15-3 advantage into half and the second half was more of the same as the Setter offense was firing on all cylinders.
By the end of the affair, 11 different members of the Blue and Gold found the back of the cage, with Juvelier leading the way with five. Porcello stuffed the stat sheet, scoring twice to go along with five assists, five ground balls, six draw controls, and a pair of caused turnovers. The Blue and Gold dominated the draw circle, winning 22 draws.Â
