PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Three runs batted in from Dylan Koch and Mason Baronian helped the Pace University baseball team cruise past Caldwell University, 10-3. With the win, the Blue and Gold increase their win streak to six games, improving to 20-8 overall and remain 10-3 within the Northeast-10.
After Caldwell tallied the first run of the game in the opening inning, Pace answered in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at one. Baronian delivered his first RBI of the contest off a single to kick start his splendid day in the batter's box.
In the third, Baronian's bat struck again driving home another RBI on a single through the left side. The base knock gave Pace a 2-1 advantage, a lead they never surrendered the rest of the game. Two more runs crossed the plate in the inning with RBIs coming from Hunter Goldstein and Koch.
In the fifth, runs continued to light up on the scoreboard for Pace as Koch drove home 2 RBIs on a triple down the right-field line to extend the lead to 6-1. Next inning, the Blue and Gold kept their foot on the gas pedal and drove home another three runs with Baronian accounting for his third RBI on the day.
Pace tacked on one run before the game ended and shut down Caldwell's offense to secure their 20th victory of the season, by a final score of 10-3. Ryan Degnan earned the win pitching five innings, allowing one run while striking out four batters. Out of the bullpen, Brian Espinal, Marco Siracusa, and Anthony Apollaro combined for four innings pitched and just one run surrendered.
Baronian posted his second four-hit game of his career going 4-for-4, with one extra-base hit, a walk, three RBIs, and three runs scored in a masterful effort. First-year player Koch showcased his stellar approach to the plate driving in three RBIs in a 3-for-3 performance that included the second triple of his career.
In addition to his spectacular day hitting, Koch sped around the base paths swiping three stolen bases marking the first time a Setter has reached the feat since Luke Jacobi stole three bases back in the 2022 season.
Saturday at noon, the Setters begin a five-game road trip traveling to Waltham, MA to battle Bentley University in a doubleheader match-up.
