No. 1 Setters Defense Silences Penmen's High Powered Offense

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Three days after setting a career-high in goals with six against the University of New Haven, Maddie Schubert fired off seven goals to lead the No. 1 Pace University women's lacrosse team past Southern New Hampshire University, 16-8, Saturday morning at Northwell Stadium.

The Setters stay perfect, improving to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in Northeast 10 play. The Setters will return to action on Wednesday with a trip to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on Mercy University for a 3 p.m. match-up.

The Setters struck first by the way of Angelina Porcello, weaving through traffic to fire off her first of three goals. The Penmen's offense responded and grabbed the lead with back-to-back goals but Porcello found the back of the net again to tie the game up at 2-2.

Porcello's goal served as the catalyst to keep the lead in favor of the Blue and Gold, with Schubert and Mackenzie Carita scoring to close the first quarter, 4-2.

The game was put out of reach of the Penmen in the second quarter, as Pace outscored SNHU 6-1 behind three goals from Schubert, two goals from Sydney Juvelier, and Porcello's third goal.

The offense kept the good times rolling in the third, highlighted by Alexandra Quinn's second career goal off a feed from Juvelier while outscoring the visitors 5-2 to take a 15-5 lead into the final quarter.

Schubert scored the seven goals on 11 shots with 10 being on target. Delilah Doyle caused five Penmen turnovers while securing four ground balls. To go along with her goal Quinn caused three turnovers. The eight goals the Setter defense held the Penmen to is a season-low for the offense which averages 15 goals per game.
