WEST HAVEN, CONN. – For the first time in the 2024 season, the No. 1 Pace University women's lacrosse team had to play away from Northwell Stadium, heading to No. 20 University of New Haven on Wednesday evening and looked just as comfortable as they did at home, defeating UNH 17-6.
Pace stays perfect, going to 8-0 on the year and will return home for its next contest, welcoming Southern New Hampshire University to Pleasantville on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 11 a.m.
Pace's offense took control of the game early on and created space from the Chargers to where they never found themselves in the game.
Maddie Schubert and
Angelina Porcello alternated on the scoring front to account for the first four Setter goals in the first quarter.
The Chargers scored the final goal of the first quarter and the first of the second quarter to close the gap to 4-2. The two teams traded goals until Porcello and Schubert went back-to-back again and were joined by
Mackenzie Carita and
Annie Sheehan to score four of the final five goals to take a 10-5 lead into halftime.
UNH scored for the final time this evening to open the third quarter as the Setter defense clamped down at that point while the offense provided the final seven goals in the second half.
Schubert was in top form this evening, firing off a career-high six goals while Porcello accounted for four of her own to go along with 10 draw controls, a season-high.
Alexandra Quinn was the recipient of seven draw controls while causing a pair of turnovers.
Samantha Tanguay earned another win between the pipes, making 11 saves in the win.
