West Chester, PA – The Pace University softball team came away victorious in both games of their Sunday doubleheader against West Chester University. They captured game one, 1-0, and game two by a final score of 2-1. On the season, the Blue and Gold are now 5-3 overall.
Game One
In a game one pitcher's duel, the Setters edged past the Golden Rams 1-0. After three scoreless innings to start the game, Pace brought home the only run of the contest in the fourth. Behind a single from Willa Poplawski, the Setters earned all they would need to defeat West Chester in game one.
Led by the impressive pitching performance from Garcia, the Blue and Gold captured game one 1-0 as West Chester managed just two hits in the contest. Garcia threw seven scoreless innings striking out ten total to earn her second win of the season.
At the plate, Poplawski went 2-for-3 with the game-winning RBI single. Four other Setters tallied a hit in the contest with Alexa Borino scoring the lone run of the game.
Game Two
Gisselle Garcia's two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning lifted Pace over West Chester University in game two of Sunday's doubleheader. In a game that was scoreless until the fifth, Garcia broke the 0-0 tie with a deep home run to left field. The Blue and Gold held the lead the rest of the way allowing just one run to West Chester in the 2-1 win.
The reigning Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week Garcia propelled the Setters past the Golden Rams with her two-run homer, showcasing her two-way talent. Raelle Gorman provided a hit and a walk on the day, while Poplawski tallied a walk and a run scored.
On the mound, Anna Acevedo shut down the West Chester offense pitching five scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out two batters. Out of the bullpen, Alyssa Smart earned the save after tossing two innings and striking out two hitters.
