Lakewood, NJ – With two wins against Georgian Court University, the Pace University softball team now holds a four-game win streak heading into their home opener Thursday afternoon. The Blue and Gold captured game one, 8-3, and game two, 10-2, to improve to 7-3 overall on the year.
Game One
The Setters rode a great performance from Gisselle Garcia as she continued her strong start to the season. In the bottom of the second, the junior struck out the side looking, in dominating fashion.
After scoring one run in the third, the Setters exploded in the fourth inning bringing four runs across the plate. Jade Alvarado recorded an RBI in the inning while Kaylee Matsuda posted two. After the fourth, the Setters led 5-1.
In the next inning, Sophie Valle added another run to Pace's lead with an RBI single to left field. With a 6-1 advantage the Setters never looked back and cruised the rest of the way. Priscilla Del Toro came in relief to close the game out for the Setters helping secure their sixth win of the season by a final score of 8-3.
Garcia tallied six total innings on the mound allowing two runs while striking out ten batters. Offensively, Valle and Matsuda lead the way for Pace each recording two RBIs on the day.
Game Two
It was more of the same for the Blue and Gold in game two. Pace leaped out to a 2-0 lead in the first behind a two-RBI single from Brianna Shea, a lead they held the entire game.
Anna Acevedo built upon her success from her last start, pitching seven innings allowing two runs while striking out four batters.
Riley Jenkins added two more to Pace's tally in the third with a single through the right side extending the lead to 4-0. Pace continued to dominate on both sides the rest of the way and poured on four runs in the final inning to put the finishing touches on their win.
After an Alexa Borino infield single brought home the seventh run of the game, Raelle Gorman launched a three-run homer to right field to bring the Setters lead to 10-2. In the final half inning, Acevedo retired the side to solidify the 10-2 victory over Georgian Court.
Acevedo earned the win on the mound tossing a complete game for the Setters while allowing just five hits. At the dish, five different Setters knocked two or more hits in the contest as the team totaled 16 in game two. Gorman (2-for-5) highlighted the offense with 3 RBIs on the day while Shea (4-for-5) and Riley Jenkins (2-for-3) supplied two RBIs.

Next in store for the Setters is their home opener at the Pace Softball Field on Thursday afternoon. Pace will take on Dominican University in a doubleheader with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
