PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In a tight-knit battle against Adelphi University, the Pace University baseball team prevailed 3-2 to earn the series win. They improve to 8-5 on the year overall and 2-1 within the Northeast-10.
The Blue and Gold earned the first run of the afternoon in the second with a Hunter Goldstein single to left field. The Setters held the 1-0 advantage until the fifth when Adelphi knocked a solo home run over the fence.
The next half inning, Pace made use of an error from the opposing team to bring two runs across the plate. After a quick sixth inning, Adelphi threatened Pace's lead in the seventh.
After a single and back-to-back walks, the Panthers loaded the bases to put the pressure on the Setters. Although the visitors brought home one in the inning, the Blue and Gold escaped the rally holding a 3-2 lead.
In the next two innings, Sean Costello put the finishing touches on the Setters's win closing out the game with a masterful performance. Pace earned the 3-2 win to seal the series victory over Adelphi.
Vincent Civitella had a productive day on the mound, earning the win after pitching seven innings, allowing two runs, while striking out nine Adelphi batters. In relief, freshman Sean Costello shut the door on the Panthers earning the save in a two-inning performance with three strikeouts.
At the dish, Mason Baronian continued his hot streak knocking three base hits on the day. Matthew Rinaldi built on his productive start to the year, hitting two base knocks in the leadoff spot. Goldstein tallied an RBI and a hit in the contest.
Up next for the Blue and Gold is a Tuesday afternoon match-up against East Stroudsburg University with the first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
