Setters Drop Doubleheader Against Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, PA – In a doubleheader against Shippensburg University, the Pace University softball team dropped both games by a final score of 4-3 in each. After Saturday's twin bill, the Blue and Gold move to an even 3-3 overall on the year.

Game One

In the third inning, Pace opened the scoring with a Raelle Gorman single to give the Setters an early 1-0 lead. After a scoreless fourth for both sides, the Blue and Gold struck again with a Brianna Shea single up the middle bringing the score to 2-0 Pace.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth the Setters held a two-run advantage, a lead the Raider offense cut into immediately. Shippensburg's Taylor Myers provided the hit of the game for the Raiders with a base-clearing double to left-field scoring three runs to bring the score to 2-3.

In the sixth, the Setters tallied a run behind a Kaylee Matsuda single to tie the game at three. The close-knit game turned in favor of the home team in the bottom of the sixth, after a solo home run from Morgan Lindsay. The Setters failed to match the run from Shippensburg and dropped game one 4-3.

Shea went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Matsuda and Gorman each added a hit with an RBI. Gisselle Garcia pitched for the Setters, tallying 12 strikeouts in six innings.

Game Two

Shea continued her productive day in game two, knocking a long two-run homer over the left field wall to give Pace a 2-0 lead in the third. The junior struck again the next inning with an RBI single through the ride side of the infield increasing Pace's advantage to 3-0.

In the fifth inning Shippensburg brought two runs across the plate, trimming Pace's lead to one run. After the Raiders tied the Setters in the sixth, they delivered the final run of the game with an RBI single to complete the comeback over Pace, 4-3.

Shea tallied three RBIs and three hits in game two and on the day, she went 5-for-8 with four runs batted in. Riley Jenkins and Jenny Gordon each had two hits in the contest.
