GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Saturday afternoon, the Pace University baseball team was defeated, 4-8, by Adelphi University and now fall to 6-5 overall, and 1-1 in the Northeast-10.
The Setters scored the first runs of the game in the third inning behind RBIs from Hunter Goldstein, Josh Miller, and Luke Rivara. Adelphi answered quickly in the next two innings, trimming Pace's lead to one run after the fourth.
In the fifth and sixth innings the score remained at 3-2 with Pace ahead, but in the seventh Adelphi took control. The Panthers tallied three runs in the inning after some timely hits at the plate to bring the score to 3-5.
Pace tallied one run in the eighth inning after a bases-loaded walk to decrease the deficit to one. However, the Adelphi offense continued their late run scoring three runs in the ninth to extend their lead to 8-4. In the top of the ninth, the Setters failed to rally bringing their win streak to an end by a final score of 4-8.
Josh Miller posted a 2-for-3 day with two runs batted in while Mason Baronian went 3-for-4 with one run scored.
The Setters conclude their three-game series with Adelphi tomorrow at noon at the Peter X. Finnerty Field.
