PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Behind 16 hits at the plate, the Pace University baseball team tallied 13 runs against Adelphi University to extend their win streak to six games. With the 13-1 win, the Blue and Gold are 7-4 overall, and 1-0 in the Northeast-10.
Patrick Gleason dominated Adelphi on the mound, allowing only one runner to reach base in the first three innings, to help the Setters gain confidence at the plate early. After a Matthew Franco double brought home the first run of the game in the bottom of the second the Setter's offense exploded in the third.
Back-to-back doubles from Anthony Labita and Franco gave Pace a 4-0 advantage, a lead they continued to increase. Mason Baronian would strike next for the Setters with a double to bring home another run. Two batters later, Cole Resetar delivered the final RBI of the inning with a sacrifice fly, and after three innings the Setters held a commanding lead, 6-0.
The Blue and Gold continued to pour on runs in the sixth and seventh innings, increasing their lead to 12-1 over Adelphi. The Panthers failed to match Pace's production and Cristian Rodriguez sealed the deal in the ninth retiring the side in order.
Gleason, the reigning 2023 Northeast Pitcher of the Year, pitched eight innings allowing just two hits and one run.
From the top to the bottom of the order, the Setters found success at the plate totaling a season-high 16 hits on the day. Rinaldi led the way in the lead-off spot, going 3-for-6 with three RBIs. Labita also brought home three RBIs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Franco tallied two RBIs and two hits, while Baronian went 3-for-4 with one run batted in. As a team, Pace went 16-for-34 in the contest with seven different players producing an RBI.
