PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – With the regular season behind the Northeast-10, the Pace University men's and women's basketball have entered the postseason and have earned the right to host their first game's of the postseason.
THE WOMEN'S RUNDOWN
The Pace women's basketball team prepares for a first-round matchup against No. 10 Adelphi University (7-21 overall, 5-17 NE10) in the 2024 Northeast-10 Championship.
The Setters hold the seventh seed in the tournament and will continue their journey on Friday to a Northeast-10 Championship with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
In the 2023-24 regular season Pace finished with a 17-11 overall record, and an even 11-11 record in the Northeast-10. Offensively, the Blue and Gold have been led by the trio of Tower Lorde, Arianna Stockinger, and Ciara Collins.
Lorde averaged a team-high 11.8 points to go alongside 7.6 rebounds. Stockinger supplied 10.3 points per game with 5.7 rebounds. Collins, a second-year player, posted a productive 10.4 points to go with 4.3 boards per game.
The Setters have built great chemistry this season under head coach Carrie Seymour as several players took a leap in productivity. Pace holds one of the best away records in the conference at 9-5 which will be an immense part of their championship run.
With the playoffs on the horizon, Pace awaits Adelphi University for the opening round of the conference tournament. In the regular season, the Setters came away with two victories against Adelphi. The first meeting between the two ended in a 60-51 win. Two months later, the Blue and Gold secured a 59-52 victory on Adelphi's home court.
The No. 2 seeded Assumption University Greyhounds will face the winner of Pace and Adelphi's match-up. The Setters dropped both games against Assumption in the regular season, however, the playoff setting brings new life for each team in the conference.
THE MEN'S RUNDOWN
With the regular season now in the books for the men, a regular season that featured some of the streakiest basketball the Setters have played in recent history, the Blue and Gold earned the four seed, and a bye, in the upcoming Northeast 10 Basketball Championships and will host the winner of Friday's Southern New Hampshire University and Franklin Pierce University first-round match-up. The game will take place at 3:30 on Sunday at Goldstein Fitness Center.
While everyone's record is now 0-0 in a way, Pace did finish the regular season with a final mark of 18-10 and 14-8 in NE10 tilts and riding a six-game winning streak.
The Setters have gotten it done on both ends of the floor this year. On the offensive end,
Bryan Powell has been the offensive force that he has been known to be but transfer
Tray Alexander has gelled into the offense fantastically. Alexander is one of the top assist men in all of NCAA DII. He is currently leading DII in assists-per-game with 7.2 per-game. In total, Alexander has dished out an impressive 195 assists this season which is top-two in DII. In the regular season, Alexander has posted six double-doubles and one triple-double. The triple-double, which came against Assumption on Feb. 14, was the first in program history and earned Alexander earned both NE10 Player of the Week and Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week for his efforts that week.
Alexander's partner this year has been Powell. Powell, who is the top scorer for the Blue and Gold with 17.9 points-per-game which is ninth in the conference, is aiming to continue his torrid offensive performance into the postseason. Having eclipsed the 20-point mark in all games but one in the month of February, it was highlighted by a 40-point performance against Franklin Pierce.
Pace has had success against both opponents that they could face off with this season, sweeping the regular season series against both the Penmen and Ravens.
