Setters Fall Short in Close Match-up Against Bentley

WALTHAM, MA. – A great effort on the road came up shy as the Pace University women's basketball team lost 63-60 to Bentley University on Saturday afternoon. The Setters move to 17-10 overall, and 11-10 within the Northeast-10 Conference. 

A close first half brought the score to 28-30 with the Falcons ahead.  

Down to the final minutes, Pace and Bentley exchanged baskets as the Falcons failed to extend their lead by more than four in the final quarter. With less than two minutes remaining, Arianna Stockinger drove through the lane and scored a layup to trim the lead to one point, 57-58. Bentley would answer immediately on the next possession with a layup of their own to increase their advantage, 60-57.  

The Falcons were sent to the free throw line with under 15 seconds left where they made the first attempt and then secured an offensive rebound following a miss. Pace was forced to foul on the final possession, and the deficient extended to two possessions. 

Out of a timeout, Tower Lorde dropped in a layup down low bringing the score to within a possession however, the Setters would run out of time to complete the comeback. With a final chance to tie the game up, Pace attempted to push the ball up the court but was unsuccessful. With the 63-60 loss, the Setters drop the season series against Bentley (0-2).  

In the tight-knit match-up, there were ten lead changes as neither side led by more than seven points. The three-point battle ended up as the difference with Bentley 5-12 (41.7%) knocking down three more behind the arc than Pace 2-9 (22.2%).  

Kylie DuCharme led the way for the home team producing a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The freshman forward also supplied three steals on the defensive end.  

Pace's offense was spread out with four players reaching double-figure points. Ciara Collins and Shanice Sinclair led the way with 13 each, while Stockinger poured in 12 and Lorde tallied 11.  

The Blue and Gold return to their home court for the final game of the 2023-24 season against Saint Anselm College.
