PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – History was made Wednesday evening in Goldstein Fitness Center as
Tray Alexander recorded the program's first triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists as he propelled the Pace University men's basketball team to an overtime win over Assumption University, 79-73.
Alexander's triple-double is the first in the Northeast-10 this season and the 12
th overall in all of NCAA Division II.
Pace improves to 14-10 overall and 10-8 in Northeast 10 play.
Pace erased a seven point halftime lead to send the game to an extra five minutes, and came out firing after securing the overtime tip rattling off an 11-0 run right out of the gate which was kick started by a
Bryan Powell triple right in front of the Setter bench off an assist from Alexander, which ended up being the tenth assist he needed to make history.
Powell connected on a layup the next trip down and then a combination of
Marc Dadika and
Jabari Nurse finished off the run to take an 11-point lead with 1:18 left, 76-65. Assumption made a final push down the stretch, with their full-court press finding success, but it was too little to late as the Setters earned a key conference win.
Not to be overshadowed by Alexander, the reigning NE10 Player of the Week
Bryan Powell turned in 27-points on 9-10 shooting from the field including a perfect 3-3 from long range. Dadika finished with 10 points and seven rebounds as well as a trio of three blocks.
As a team, the Blue and Gold shot 49.2 percent while surviving 17 lead changes and posting 50 points in the paint.
The Setters return to action on Saturday with a trip to Manchester, NH to face-off with Southern New Hampshire University, with tip-off set for 3:30 p.m.
