PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's basketball team suffered a setback at the hands of Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, 58-48, at Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters drop to 15-8 overall and 9-8 in Northeast 10 play.
The visitors came out the gates firing, scoring the first nine points of the game before
Tower Lorde stopped the bleeding with a free throw. By the time the opening ten minutes had concluded, the lead for Franklin Pierce was up to double-digits, 18-7.
The second quarter continued the trend from the first, with Franklin Pierce having their way on the offensive end, while shutting down Pace's offense.
Ciara Collins did her part on the offensive end, connecting on a pair of jumpers to get the lead down to ten, 28-18, with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. Pace entered the locker room with some momentum as Lorde brought down an offensive rebound with less than five seconds remaining and finished through contact for an and-one opportunity. After connecting the free throw, Pace entered the locker room facing a nine-point deficit, 30-21.
The third quarter followed the same trends as the first half, but the script looked like it could change in the fourth quarter. Powered by Lorde down low, the Setters were able to hang around as she single-handedly kept the Setters close by netting Pace's next nine points to get the lead down to ten. A
Katumina Mansaray triple as the shot clock expired got the lead down to nine but that would be as close as the Blue and Golf would get.
Lorde turned in another solid outing posting 22 points and 11 rebounds.
The Setters return to action in Goldstein Fitness Center on Tuesday, with Assumption University coming to town. That game will also serve as the yearly Pride Hoops game.
