PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Pace Women's Basketball (3-6 / 1-2 NE10) jumped back into Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference play on Wednesday evening when the squad hosted American International College (AIC) in Goldstein Fitness Center.
Three Blue and Gold players recorded double-digit points and the Setters ran away with the 54-52 victory for their first NE10 victory of the season.
Here's What Happened:
- The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle as the score was tied three times up until the eighth point of the night. Shanice Sinclair netted a pull up jumper for the 10-8 lead and enabled the Setters to stayed out in front for the remainder of the contest.
- Pace held their largest lead of seven, 25-18, in the second quarter after a Grace Ziogas bucket. AIC chipped away at the host lead and got it down to two, however, they could not surpass the Setters.
- Entering intermission, the Setters sat up by two, 31-29, and Katumina Mansaray continued the Setter scoring feat with a pair of free throws for the 33-29 advantage. Later in the third, Ziogas and Mansaray tallied points for the 44-42 lead with one frame left to play.
- The Yellowjackets put the Setters on their heels as the contest reached its final moments. Arianna Stockinger kept the Blue and Gold alive with two buckets from the long range while Sinclair continued to find her rhythm from the mid-range. As the game reached the two-minute mark, both teams did not score a single point, but it played in favor of the Setters with the score displaying 53-52.
- AIC had two opportunities to take the lead, but to no avail. Mansaray was sent to the line on a foul to sink one of two, and the Blue and Gold captured their first conference win of the season, 54-52.
Box Score Insights:
- Stockinger was one rebound shy of a double-double when she finished with 13 points and nine rebounds while posting two blocks and a steal. Sinclair also tallied 13 points along with four assists.
- Mansaray was the final Setter with double-digit points as she finished with 10 points and second on the team with six rebounds.
- Ciara Collins recorded nine points and Ziogas netted seven.
