PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Sunday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center, Pace women's basketball hosted Saint Thomas Aquinas for an out-of-conference match-up. In the contest, the Setters fell 65-63.
After Sunday's action, the Blue and Gold move to 2-6 overall and remain 0-2 within the Northeast-10.
Here's What Happened
- Both sides traded buckets in the early portion of the contest with Pace trailing by one point, 16-15, after one-quarter of play.
- In the second quarter, back-to-back three-pointers from the home squad helped bring the game back to even.
- In the final minutes, two made layups from Victoria Dieguez and Katumina Mansaray stretched the lead to 31-29. Ten first-half points from Arianna Stockinger led the way for the Blue and Gold.
- To open the second half, the Setters knocked down two straight jumpers to increase the advantage to seven points, 36-29. Despite the surge, STAC continued to find success in the paint and remained within five, 47-42, heading into the final quarter.
- Down to the wire with under three minutes left, the Spartans capitalized from three-point range to threaten Pace's lead, 59-58. Following the three-point make, Stockinger made a free throw on the other end to jump ahead by two, 60-58.
- The Spartans answered back and grabbed the lead after an and-one layup conversion. Trailing by three points, 63-60, Pace failed to knock down a three-pointer in the ensuing possession.
- The Setters were forced to send STAC to the free throw line where they eventually sealed the deal on the game. When the clock struck zero the Blue and Gold fell 65-63.
