Senior Day Celebrations End with Win Over Assumption

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center, Pace volleyball celebrated its Senior Day with a 3-2 victory over Assumption University. In a tight-knit match, the Setters fought back-and-forth with the Greyhounds but eventually triumphed in the fifth set, 15-8.

Here's What Happened
  • After dropping a close first set, the Blue and Gold rallied to capture sets two and three. Both sets were decided by ten or more points as it seemed the Setters would cruise into a four-set victory.
  • The Greyhounds had other plans and took down Pace 25-16 in the fourth set. In a seesaw battle, a fifth set decided the contest.
  • After surrendering the first two points of the final set, Pace tacked on four straight to take an early 4-2 advantage. A 6-1 run after decided the match as the Blue and Gold sailed their way to a 15-8 final.
  • Four different Setters recorded a kill in the deciding set with Karielys Melendez leading the way with three. With two games remaining on the schedule, Pace holds an 11-8 overall record and a 5-3 record within the Northeast-10.
Box Score Insights
  • Yasmeen Muhammad dominated at the net for Pace producing a career-high 11 blocks with nine kills.
  • A double-double from Melendez led the charge for the Setters as she posted 21 kills and 14 digs to go along with two service aces. The sophomore's 21 kills marked a season-high.
  • A member of the pregame senior celebration, Abby Robertson, registered 14 kills highlighting a second-best on the squad.
  • The duo of Georgette Cosentino and Lexi Zammit led in the assists department, with Cosentino posting 21 and Zammit 22.
  • Morgan Amos and Maggie Ferguson led in digs as they each tallied 18 in the contest.
For the final time this regular season, the Setters return to their home court on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for a match-up against the University of New Haven.
