Setters Fall Late to Dominican (N.Y.) to Conclude Opening Weekend

CALDWELL, NJ - Pace Women's Basketball (0-2) returned to Caldwell University for game two of the CACC/NE10 Conference Challenge Saturday afternoon.

The Setters went up against Dominican (N.Y.) University and in what was a close-knit contest, the Chargers edged the blue and gold with late points for the 61-58 Setter defeat.

Here's What Happened:
  • The contest featured three ties and five lead changes throughout and during the first, three of the lead changes led with the Chargers concluding the opening minutes ahead 17-13.
  • Pace held their opponents to just nine points in the second quarter and with the help of Ciara Collins, Shanice Sinclair, Arianna Stockinger, and Mari Lee, the score sat tied at 26 at the half.
  • The game ties came from the third quarter. After each score tie, the Setters either equalized the score or jumped out in front. Cali Chiocchi gave the 32-31 lead to the Setters going 1-2 from the free throw line and then Sinclair would give the 40-38 lead on a jumper. By the end of the third, Dominican buried a trey for the 46-44 score flip entering the final stanza.
  • During the fourth, Pace began playing catch-up when Dominican started to post four-point leads through the first 3 minutes of the frame. As the contest reached the two-minute mark, Collins netted a bucket from behind the arch to make it a one-point game, 59-58.
  • Both teams would not buy a basket until a foul call was made with four seconds remaining and the Chargers went 2-2 from the line. Thus, ending the game 61-58 for a Setter defeat to close out the opening weekend.
Box Score Insights:
  • Sinclair led the charge with 14 points and six assists while Stockinger tallied 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
  • Collins ended the day with nine points.
  • The Setters shot 37% (22-60) from the field and went 75% (9-12) at the free throw line.
