Setters Battle With No.6 Bentley In Home Opener

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Pace women's basketball (0-3 / 0-1 NE10) sparked Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference play Wednesday evening at Goldstein Fitness and Recreation Center as they welcomed No. 6 Bentley University.

The Setters had a commanding first quarter to lead the Falcons 19-14, but after being held to six points in the second, Bentley ran away with the 67-57 victory.

Here's What Happened:
  • During the first, the blue and gold shot 60% (4-6) from behind the arc with buckets from Katumina Mansaray and Victoria Dieguez to assist in the 19-14 advantage.
  • Ciara Collins kept the momentum going for the Setters with a point in the paint for a three-point play, 22-14, but the Falcons went on an 8-0 run to equalize the score at 22 and ultimately stole the lead 26-23, which they never relinquished.
  • After one half of play, the Falcons were in front 34-25. The third quarter featured the largest and most effective quarter for the blue and gold, tallying 20 points. With Bentley increasing their lead to 11, Arianna Stockinger netted back-to-back treys to slash the deficit to five, 36-31 and Collins was right behind with a layup, 36-33. By the end of the third, the Setters trailed 52-45.
  • Bentley edged the hosts in the final stanza outscoring the Setters 15-12. As the Falcon advantage hiked up to 13, Stockinger and Collins continued to battle for the squad in an attempt to regain their first-quarter lead. However, as the clock dwindled the score favored the Falcons 67-57.
Box Score Insights:
  • Stockinger led the charge with 17 points and one block while Mansaray had 14. Collins and Shanice Sinclair snagged five boards apiece, but Collins led the duo with 13 points and Sinclair with 10.
  • The Setters ended the night shooting 41.5% (22-53) from the field and 38% (8-21) from behind the arc.
  • The Falcons committed 16 turnovers thanks to the blue and gold's defensive pressure but out-rebounded the hosts 35-20.
