DOBBS FERRY, NY - Pace Women's Basketball traveled to Dobbs Ferry, NY for a non-conference match up with Mercy University Sunday afternoon.
The Setter duo of
Katumina Mansaray and
Arianna Stockinger assisted in the Blue and Gold's first win of the season as Pace defeated Mercy, 63-58.
Here's What Happened:
- Pace was off to a slow start compared to the hosts where the Mavericks held a 24-7 advantage over the Setters after the first quarter.
- After another Maverick point to spark the second, the Setters were sitting in a 19-point deficit, 26-7. However, Mansaray and Stockinger kicked off the Setter offense that ultimately led to Ciara Collins and Morgan Ryan to tally crucial points for the squad and slash the host lead to nine, 32-23. As the contest reached intermission, the Setters remained trailing by nine, 36-27.
- The second and third quarters featured 20 points apiece for the Blue and Gold. Mansaray continued her offensive reign to open the second half with back-to-back field goals and Victoria Dieguez recorded a three pointer as the Setters now trailed by four, 38-34. Mansaray tied the score at 38 and then gave the Setters their first lead of the game, 40-38, but the hosts equalized the score once more at 40. With two more ties featured in the third, Pace went into the final stanza now leading, 47-44.
- In a battle for the lead, there were two more draws in the fourth where Pace came out on top and maintained their lead for the remainder of the contest for their first win of the season. After Stockinger recorded the 53rd point for the squad to tie, Dieguez recorded another bucket for the 55-53 advantage and later on, the score favored the Blue and Gold, 63-58, for the non-conference victory over Mercy.
Box Score Insights:
- Mansaray led the team with 20 points while Stockinger recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
- Shanice Sinclair ended the day with 9 points and Dieguez had eight.
- The Blue and Gold shot 47% (21-45) from the field and 33% from behind the arc (4-12). Pace also dominated on the boards when they out-rebounded the Mavericks 34-29.
