WEST HAVEN, CT - Pace Women's Basketball is coming off their first win of the season versus Mercy University on Sunday. Wednesday evening, the Setters continued Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference play with the University of New Haven in Connecticut.
The weekday NE10 match-up featured a battle for the score advantage midway through the first quarter until the hosts closed out the first half of play leading the Blue and Gold by 10, 29-19. At the end of the night, the Chargers toppled the Setters, 63-50, for Pace to drop to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the NE10.
Here's What Happened:
- To ignite the game, the Chargers opened up on a 6-0 run until Shanice Sinclair put the Blue and Gold on the board and Arianna Stockinger put the squad within one on a three, 6-5. Another made bucket from behind the arc, but this time by Katumina Mansaray, allowed the Setters to take the 8-6 lead over the hosts. Despite the efforts, the Chargers closed out the first with a nine-point advantage, 17-8, after another run (11-0).
- At the end of the first half, Pace found themselves trailing by 10, 29-19. Coming out of halftime, the squad would feature their largest outing in the third outscoring the Chargers, 18-16. With one more stanza left to play, Pace began to battle back with the hosts leading, 45-37.
- Mansaray got the team going in the fourth with points in the paint, but the Chargers would continue to edge the Setters.
- Pace forced back-to-back turnovers at the halfway point of the fourth which led to points from Victoria Dieguez and Sinclair, 54-43. Ciara Collins would slash the advantage to seven from a trey, 55-48, but could not surpass the hosts for the 63-50.
Box Score Insights:
- Dieguez and Mansaray led the team with 11 points each with Dieguez recording three steals and two assists.
- Collins and Stockinger sat with eight points apiece. Collins led the team with four steals and Stockinger led on the boards with four.
- Pace's defense forced 16 Charger turnovers that they were able to convert to 20 points in the night.
