Setters Match Up With Dolphins in Overtime Thriller

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Pace Women's Basketball (1-5 / 0-2 NE10) hit the road to Staten Island, N.Y. to match up with the College of Staten Island (CSI) in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon.

The game featured 10 score ties and six lead changes as the Setters fell short in an overtime thriller, 66-64.

Here's What Happened:
  • The first half of play was all Blue and Gold as they held the lead advantage for majority of the opening half. To start the first quarter, Shanice Sinclair led the team with Pace's three opening buckets for the 6-6 tie and Davionna Phillips gave the squad the 8-6 lead. Katumina Mansaray would tally the final bucket of the first quarter and the Setters led by two, 17-15.
  • In the second, Arianna Stockinger wasted no time to continue to extend the Setter lead, 19-15. After approximately three minutes of featured points from either side, CSI shattered the cold streak and tied it up once again at 19. Since then, the Setters led for the remainder of the second quarter into intermission leading the hosts, 28-25.
  • Just like the second, Stockinger opened up scoring in the second half one a bucket in the paint, 30-25. This frame would feature the largest lead of the day for the squad of 8 after Stockinger netted another basket from behind the arc, 41-33.
  • With one quarter remaining in the day, the Blue and Gold held the 43-38 score advantage. However, this displayed the Dolphins largest scoring outing with 20 points compared to the Setters 15 to force the extra minutes.
  • All it took was one overtime frame. Grace Ziogas would record her first collegiate career points to tie it once again for a final time at 64. With a few foul chances, the Dolphins ran away with the 66-64 lead.
Box Score Insights:
  • Sinclair led all Pace scorers with 16 points, shooting 89% (8-9) from the field, while also recording seven assists.
  • Stockinger was second on the team with 13 points, but led the team on the boards with seven. Mansaray was the final Setter scorer with double-figure points as she tallied 11 with two steals.
