First Half Surge Lifts Setters Past RV New Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT. – On the road Wednesday evening, (RV) Pace men's basketball cruised to a 73-56 win over the University of New Haven (RV) led by a 46-point first half. From the initial tip-off, the Setters had their way on the court dismantling the Chargers away from their home court to secure their fifth victory in a row to begin the 2024-25 season.

The convincing in-conference win improves the Blue and Gold's record to 5-0 overall, and 2-0 within the Northeast-10.

Here's What Happened
  • All five starters tallied a bucket in the first five minutes to give Pace a 12-4 advantage early in the contest. The onslaught continued for Pace as they broke the game wide open on an impressive 20-0 run.
  • With twenty straight first-half points, the score favored the Blue and Gold 32-6. The Chargers began to find success towards the end of the half but when the clock struck zero Pace held an immense 46-21 lead.
  • Out of the locker room, New Haven charged back with seven straight made field goals trimming the Setters lead to 14 points, 54-40. The Setters slowed down the tempo following the run from New Haven and took back control of the game.
  • Sticking with their strong play in the paint Pace fended off the Chargers down the stretch to solidify their fifth win of the season, 73-56.
Box Score Insights
  • In another first-rate showcase on both sides of the court, the Setters outscored the Chargers by 17 points. Throughout the first five games of the season, Pace has scored 379 points (75.8 per game) while only surrendering 296 (59.2 per game).
  • Northeast-10 Player of the Week, Tray Alexander filled the box score once again for Pace flirting with a triple-double on the night. The point guard posted 14 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds coming up one board shy of his second career triple-double.
  • Five different Setters scored in double-figures as Jabari Nurse (13 points), Jaden Kealey (12 points), Darren Fergus (10 points), and Jamaal Waters (10 points) polished off the scoring alongside Alexander.
  • Another efficient night down low had Pace produce 58 points in the paint compared to New Haven's 22.
Next in store for the Setters is a home match-up against the University of Bridgeport set for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. from the Goldstein Fitness Center.
