Fairhurst Leads Charge in Road Win Against Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Wednesday afternoon, Pace field hockey snuck past Mercy University, 1-0, with a game-winning goal from Katelyn Fairhurst. After a stellar defensive effort from both sides, Pace capitalized in the final minutes to break the tie on the road. With the in-conference win the Setters improve to 6-5 overall, and 3-3 in the Northeast-10.

Here's What Happened
  • In the first half, neither side managed to find the back of the net as Pace tallied ten shots compared to Mercy's six. Both defenses shined with several great opportunities shut down in the crease.
  • Midway through the third period, Fairhurst nearly put Pace on the board but was shut down on two excellent looks inside the circle. Moving into the fourth quarter, the game was tied with zeros on the board.
  • To open the final quarter, Mercy had a chance to take the lead with a penalty corner opportunity. However, a defensive save from Molly Paterson kept the Mavericks off the board.
  • Later on at the 56-minute mark, the Setters earned a penalty corner and were in position to strike. After a save from Mercy's goalkeeper, Fairhurst corralled a rebound and launched the ball into the twine to push the Setters ahead, 1-0. In the final four minutes, the Blue and Gold held the 1-0 advantage to capture their sixth win of the season.
