GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Pace volleyball fell, 3-0, on the road to Adelphi University in their first in-conference match of the season. The Setters dropped three straight sets in Garden City, N.Y., falling to 5-6 overall and 0-1 within the Northeast-10.
Here's What Happened
- In the opening set, the Setters kept stride with the Panthers until a 7-3 run by Adelphi. Despite seven kills from Karielys Melendez in the set Adelphi closed out a 25-18 win.
- In the second set of the evening, Pace jumped out to a 7-4 advantage. However, an 8-0 run from the Panthers turned the tides in their favor, 17-13. Adelphi went on to capture the set 25-19 taking momentum into the third set.
- The Setters fought back from down five points in the final set finding themselves tied at 16. Both sides traded points as Melendez continued to bring the pressure offensively tallying two straight kills. Despite the late charge, Pace fell 25-22 in the third set.
Box Score Insights
- Melendez led the Setters in kills with 13. The sophomore also added a team-high in digs also posting 14 on the night.
- Freshman Lexi Zammit recorded a team-best 16 assists.
- As a team, the Blue and Gold had 33 kills compared to Adelphi's 40.
Next in store for the Blue and Gold is a Saturday in-conference clash against Franklin Pierce University. The opening serve is set for 11:00 a.m. from the Goldstein Fitness Center.
